Before you start: what you need to know

In Colombia, a building permit is filed with an urban curator or the municipal planning office. Requirements change with the rules and the type of work, so this guide is general orientation: always confirm what is current with the authority.

General steps

  • Check land use and planning rules for the property.
  • Gather ownership documents, such as the title certificate.
  • Prepare designs: architecture, structure and soil study, signed by licensed professionals.
  • File the application and answer the authority’s observations.
  • Once the permit is issued and final, start work as approved.

Remodels and extensions

Minor repairs usually do not need a permit, but changing the structure, expanding or changing use does. If you are unsure, ask before you demolish.

Our team guides the process and coordinates the required designs with licensed professionals.
